We got about 3” of snow last night but the sun is out and we are getting a slight reprieve this AM. Corolla has a light wind coming out of North-northwest. At this posting, Corolla has a rough ocean and light snow flurries. Air temp is 31 degrees Fahrenheit. The wind is continuing to blow out of the ENE at 17 mph. I just finished taking these pictures in Ocean Hills. I was actually hot and took my jacket off. Air temp is currently 53 degrees Fahrenheit. Now I remember what spring feels like!!! Corolla currently has an off-shore wind, thigh high swell and an out going tide. Corolla is enjoying a reprieve from the Siberian Express. Current air temp is 36 degrees. You can tell by the pictures that the surf is only ankle slapper to knee-cap high at best . We hit an all time low this AM: 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course wind chill is in the minus 0 degrees. But the sun is out and the forecast is calling for air temps to warm up this weekend. The frigid air temps that was forecasted for last night didn’t show up. The lowest it got was 20 degrees,not down to zero as predicted. The wind is out of the North, blowing at 20 to 23 mph. This is creating a wind chill in the low single digits. Wave height is a weak waist high and Corolla has an outgoing tide at this posting. H2O is 36 degrees. A slight improvement over yesterday. Air temp is currently 34 degrees Fahrenheit and the sun is out. Wave height is about waist high and low tide is an hour away (at this posting). Surface conditions are choppy due to the steady north wind blowing at 17 to 22 mph. Wind chill feels like the low 20’s. The forecast tonight is for air temps to drop down in the high teens. Sorry for the late posting but I have been dealing with frozen pipes, icy boardwalks and re-stocking firewood. Last night’s snow storm started with beautiful champaign snow but then turned to sleet. This turned Corolla into an ice rink. Surf: wave height is nose high, rough surf, a NNW wind blowing at 20 mph, and a wind chill in the low teens. Who was in charged of naming the next 2 winter storms Octiva and Neptune. These sound like two cities in Florida. They should have named the winter storms, “Cold as Ship” & “Butt Cold”, two cities in Minnesota. Air temp in Corolla (with the sun out) is 25 degrees Fahrenheit. The wind is out of the ENE and so is the swell. Wave height is stomach to chest. But with a wind chill in the low single digits, the only thing I’m doing today is cutting firewood. After yesterday’s cold temperatures, 42°F feels like a heatwave. Wave height is thigh high and we have an offshore wind out of the South Southwest. High tide is just two hours away which is causing wave height to drop. The good news is that I'm liking the sandbar on the North side of the horse fence. The Siberian express showed up in corolla today. The surf is choppy and out of control. Air temp is currently 27 degrees Fahrenheit. That means that wind-chill is in the single digits. Today’s surf is a couple feet overhead and Corolla currently has an offshore wind. We are an hour away from high tide. At this posting, air temp is 44° fahrenheit. The paddle out we'll be 200 to 300 yards. If you can make it to the outside, there are some great sections to be had. What a difference a day makes! The ocean is out of control. The OBX has gale force winds blowing at 35 to 45 mph. I took these pictures right at high tide. The water is almost up to the dune line. Great weather and small knee cap high clean surf. I took these pictures at 9:30AM, about an hour before high tide. Swell direction is out of the Southeast and the wind out of the SW, very light speed. I would wait for the tide to go out, hope that all factors remain the same and see if you can go long boarding. NOTE: I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE SAND BARS AT THE LIGHTHOUSE RAMP ROAD. I THNK THE COROLLA SURF SCHOOL WILL HAVE A GREAT BREAK THIS SUMMER’S LESSONS. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP
