I agree. With the current path, I would be quite happy to see it all dissipate over the Caribbean. If Charleston was hit head on with a Cat 3, that would mean $millions in damage and probably some loss of life. I have many friends down there, and most of them live right on the water.

the storm is looking in 3 ways, hit charleston, come up the cape fear river in wilmington as alot of storms love the river or just pass us. wilmington hasnt been hit by an actual hurricane for a long time.

I'm in the same boat with you bobbyg, I have to go up to PA this weekend. So f*ckin' thrilled that finally the potential for some swell comes and I can't be on it. Lovin' life!

If we are lucky enough to have some decent swell, and offshore winds grace New Jersey with its presence, what is going to happen considering we have no sandbars?? Will it all be just big shore break or will it move out because of the size?

I don't know where you surf but its not all shorebreak at all. I can name plenty of spots within 10 minutes of eachother that have been breaking outside even with the knee high summer mush, just gotta look around man...

In reference to the emily bashing, you had to be in the right spot and you wern't.:)
This swell i think is going to be more tricky because of it being stonger winds and mainly closer to shore, and the chance of it making landfall.
My guess is it down grading to 1 and brushing by friso/hatteras.
IF it did do that and east winds were blowing above it would it divert the swell more south east and maintain some size, with possibly a nw w wind coming days later?
Basically how would or does the wrap around effect happen if it is even capable?

the track will change, and then the goods will show up on mon, tues, and weds.

The Kooks will be gone from the weekend, others will have to go back to work and the locals will finally get their due for enduring the worst summer in decades; of course that is the best case scenario.

I live in Wrightsville beach (just outside of wilmington nc)...all the freshman just moved in to start the new year. Anyway, hurricane party to say the least as we will def have classes canceled. Some swell on top of that would be nice, but it's looking like it may hug the coast etc and I might have to drive up to Hatteras.

eventually a CAT 4 on the latest forecast. it was a trap... it tricked us into thinking it was a trap and itll falter, but then BOOM, the real trap sprung.

its like a double agent, but hurricane style

hurricane swell rarely cooperates. this one doesn't look any different. give me a nice local low pressure system with head high groomed peaks any day.
