Before I ask where a guy can surf in the NJ/NY area these days, know that I have donated money, clothing, non perishables to Belmar, are a Monmouth county resident and a active Surfrider member. With that said, where the hell can I catch a wave? I see that the cams are still up in OC NJ, does that mean that I can access the beach? How about Tauk? I would imagine that there debis is not an issues out there. Feel free to send me a private message if you dont want to post. Good vibes to all.
Anyone heard from the Greenlight guys? I want to make an order but haven't been able to get anyone on the phone. Hopefully they along with everyone else is doing alright and making progress.
silence. please. no but seriously i don't think it's a good idea to even get into the ocean right now. i wouldn't do it. seems like too much debris, and runoff to even be worth it. all the cams from ocean city on south are back up on the surfers view though. nothing even looks too rideable as of yet. just be careful if you're going through with it. i still haven't been home, but there is a lot of sand covering streets running parallel to the beaches.
Thanks, not thinking of it today but just in general. The cleanup in Monmouth county will be going on all winter and yes debis and sewage dont make for a fun session so I have to figure something out or start planning trips to the west coast. Does anyone know if Sandy Hook survived?
I was thinking about possibly getting a few hours in tomorrow morning, as the forecast as of now looks decent. I don't want to be insensitive though, and I definitely don't want to be surfing in crap - were there a decent amount of people out there? How did the water / debris look? Is it worth it or should we give it some more time?
Hey Clemson, our power is still down at the shop, so no phones, we are going in and packing orders and shipping them out though so if you place an order online we can access the order and get it to you!
Unknown. It's so tempting to jump in early tomorrow am, especially when winds look good for western LI, but there's gotta be some serious crap lounging in the water. I've felt sick a few times after surfing western/central LI after a heavy rain, but I'd boot and rally and be fine in a few hours. But this is different. I guess you’ve got to ask yourself one question, "Do I feel lucky?"
hope you guys get everything cleaned up. that sucks. further north and it would have been us. hope a speedy cleanup recovery can take place.
ive got a friend who went in the water southern monmouth county last week and the water made his face and head swell up, literally gross swollen. its enough to keep me out for a while, thats saying a lot since surfing is the only reason i live where I do
meh... I guess it's not worth it right now... hopefully in another week or two we all will be back in the water and the quality will no longer be in question.
i paddled out two days after sandy and it was really worth it besides dodging a few pieces of wood in the lineup and praying u didnt hit anything sharp when u fell it wasnt that bad stick to a more shorebreaky wave waves in nj are rare so why pass it up. just know where ur surfing and whats in the water a kid ripped his arm up in seaside on the roller coaster so id keep away from breaks where u know a dock or pier usto be
it's the quality of the water I'm really worried about... where I live a sewage plant had to dump millions of gallons of raw sewage in the water during sandy to keep it from overloading... that sewage is floating around in the ocean and all signs point to it hasn't fully cleared out yet.
