Cost about $40 in parts from the local big hardware store including the PVC glue and spray on adhesive for the padding.

Took it for a test drive with a 7'6\" x 22\" x 3\" funboard and it performed well. Ran over bumps and potholes and my kids with no problems. Rode it in cross-wind and head-on wind and it handled it well.

IMG_0047.jpg IMG_0048.jpg IMG_0046.jpg

You should get a 29er for maximum kid-run-overness

They're getting older and quicker so I have to do something.

Nice! These things are great. I made one almost identical and it's awesome. I found a DIY tutorial that shows how to do it...it's super easy. You can park right on the sand - can't beat it.

The only change I'd made to this design is the pipe insulation. It squeaks rather annoyingly when the board rubs against it. I covered it with duct tape and that took care of the squeaks.

    Give it a look: http://www.korduroy.tv/shows/surf-sufficient/diy-surfboard-bike-rack

Thanks or the link. I saw the tutorial and had to modify his construction. The shifter cables run on the outside of the lower front tube so I couldn't mount the second support there. I added the bungees as a shock-absorber to keep the longer board from oscillating.

I'll try the duct tape if the squeaking gets to me - thanks for the tip.

UPDATE: I have put about 1-2 road hours on the rack with everything from a 5'4" Biscuit to a 7'6" funboard. No problems with handling, wind, etc. If anyone wants to build one (and the pix aren't enough info) let me know and I'll pass on any info/tips that my brain can remember.
