Recently I have been thinking of having some fun experimenting and trying to shape my own board. I am 15, 5'8, around 120 pounds and have been surfing around 5 years. What would be some good dimensions for a high performance short board that would have good speed and that I would be able to pull some radical tricks like aerials on? Also I live in Cocoa Beach, Florida where there is a lack of quality waves if this matters.

Check out Matt Kechele's boards and his website. He invented the airs (so he sez) at The Inlet and shapes great boards that can ride mush, catch air,and still carve in steep pockets. But they tend to fall apart under your feet after a heavy pounding. But use his dimensions with a bit of reinforcing stregth and you have a starting point.

kevin reed from santa cruz was the first guy to start doing airs. he got a cover shot on Surfing mag in 1975 doing one. was also the best skateboarder in the world around that time. way ahead of everybody during that era. i saw him at 50+ yrs old almost pull a 540. full rotation and half. no sh!t.
