Hey guys, just wondering if anyone out there uses a diving suit for surfing and it works as well as a regular surfing suit. The only difference I can spot is that some of the diving suits are just all 7mm or all 5mm, not varying differences in thickness to make it stretch in areas you need it to better.
Diving suits are typically not nearly as flexible as surfing wetsuits. That's why there is a huge industry for surf specific wetsuits - because diving suits don't work as well.
my first suit was an old bell helmet suit with hot water ports. better than being nekkid, but not by much.
I had a buddy try and learn to surf one day. He showed up in a diver suit, it zipped up the front / middle and stopped at the top of the chest leaving the plenty of room for water to flush the suit and the legs were baggy around the calf area, also leaving room for water to flow through. When I saw him walking up with this thing on all I could say was "What the hell is that thing?" He says, "it's my wet suit", told him dude, "that aint for surfing", he says, "it's what he got when he got certified diving, only he has never taken it diving" HAHAHA, So he figured he get some use out of it, dude wore that thing like a champion, but man was it was ridiculous looking!
Haha that 7 mil suit i use is a dive suit. Man it feels like your arms are made of steel but its toasty as hell. It will get the job done. Hell i got it for 100 bucks on other sites i saw it as high as 350 bucks for the same suit. And your buddy sounds like a champ dude. He deserves a medal.
