Just wondering, how long is your typical winter session before cold starts to set in and you get out? I know everyone handles cold weather differently, just wondering what an average is. I think mine is about an hour and a half to 2 hours. Water temp 40, air temp 30's
About two hours. And that is with water in the high 40s at the coldest. I give all props to you fellers up there blizzard surfing. Truly dedicated
For air and water temps around 40, one hour in my 4/3 for this old man (59), depending on winds. Going to more rubber next winter.
I can usually take 2.5 hours up here in The Shire as long as the wind isn't whipping too hard offshore and my potassium/hydration levels are high enough to prevent calf-cramps.
About two hours. I hate putting on all that rubber for less than an hour, but yes I've been chased out quicker if the wind is plastering my face with spray. Off topic, In my sidebar ad, there's a guy riding a foam top board with a big yellow watch that looks disturbingly like me.
2 hours when it's cold. Cold meaning 40 and below water and down to 25 air (but if super windy, subtract a 1/2 hr...LOL).
3-4 hours...depending on the conditions (yesterday was 4hrs. or so)...but when it's on...I surf until I can't get back out.
in a 4/3 in water in the low 40's - hour and a half, tops. Just got a new 5/4 f-bomb yesterday, and that thing is tits! Can easily push past the 3 hour mark now.
i never surf for more than 2-2.5 but i have been good in my 4/3 mutant in water-40 and air-35. I have just recently started to feel a chill down my back on 30 degree days and wind. For that reason i picked up an excel 5/4 just to put less stress on my beloved 4/3. i cherish that thing
I used to do 3 or 4 regardless of temp. Seems like age has caught up with me this year and I have a hard time any more than 2 hours. I'm 49.
at this time of the year in my 5/4 i'll last for 2.5 hours. i surfed for 3.5 on sunday, but it was gooooood where i was. props to the older guys on here who brave the cold. one of my dads friends kitesurfs with a 5/4 during october and november, and then snowboards all winter. he used to be a huge winter surfer but now he hates the cold winter water
vaseline on face, 5/4 wetty, 5mm gloves, 7mm boots -- have gone 15 degrees for 2 hours...but i have to quit with enough energy to walk back to the train station and change in the parking garage stairwell
Three hours is about my max in the coldest weather... and that's if the surf is good. But two hours is more typical... an hour and a half if it's not that good. Never less than an hour in full winter regalia.
You were out for 4 hours yesterday? Wow. The wooden jetty, Crystals, SC Ave or the new reef at 8th St? Hey, you ever go to the Ventnor Pier? Hey, were you in Southern Ocean County on Sunday, Live4Truth? And I take back what I said aboot you being other than exciting. I have to admit your recent posts have been fascinating. I eat crow with the best of them. I wish you found me interesting.
