http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/spot-check-first-street-jetty-virginia-beach_122156/ US Army Corps of Engineers, please pump more sand, the best day in the last 2 years looked nothing like these pics.
Wow, that truly is a beautiful looking wave (1st Street / Croatan), does it still break like that these days? See, every dog has their day here on the East Coast. Some of those pics don't even look like the East Coast, it's pretty cool to see when it lights up.
^DPSup, like I said I haven't seen it break that good in the last 2 years. And this past ECSC pic of Humph made that day look better than it was (it was fun tho, but not many HH/OH sets)
It's not the same wave it was in the 80s and 90s, but it does have it's moments. The right used to literally break right off the rocks or behind the jetty even. Now it's shifted out and over to where you see the peak in the first shot. I personally think 2nd and 3rd peaks are better waves now when it's on like shown in slide 12. 1st peak is at it's best when it's a smaller south and a wedging right bowl that you kind of get a slingshot into.
Sure things do align but VB is garb. Just look at the map. We get shielded by OBX for SE swells (and hurricanes) and NJ-Delmarva shields us from NE swells. VB is at its best when the states to the north and south are either blown out or too big and drifty.
No one would mistake 1st street for a world class break . down south is bigger.way too crowded in the summer... but its home.
1st street sucks right now... Id much rather prefer the other spots I've been surfing. It's true. Hasn't been great in last 2 years. Besides I like the lighthouse and rodanthe WAYYYY better
