DELMARVA guys, is the www.ocsurfcam.com website working for you? I tried it throughout the day from 9am and its been saying error404-not found.... Anybody know whats up? You just think the server is down? I hope they didn't turn off permanently.
nevermind, i see that swellinfo has the same camera feeds on thier site. Sorry, and mods delete this thread for me thanks.
it is nice to have resources such as the local cams,...but whether it would be a bad thing if it remained down is debatable. Local Buoys offshore and near shore do not always indicate the true conditions, so it is nice to see if the buoy data translates into visual conformation through the cams. There has been some arguments in the past, that posting of pictures and/with locations have resulted in increases in crowds over the past ten years. I would argue that,.. that the one single mid-town cam has had a greater impact on the crowds more then any other factor over the years it has been up, more then anything else. So many base whether they make a drive or not,.. on the cams. (Sorry if I am a little selfish), but back when you either made the drive or not to see for yourself, things were so much fun, EMPTY and exciting, when you pulled up and what you saw agreed with what the buoy data was saying. It is nice to just be able to walk over the dunes now and see for yourself, but back in the day, I would drive the 30 mins, no matter what, just to check it for myself. In many ways those were better times. Nothing worst then those who would not have made the drive,. except for seeing that it is working on the cams. Like clock work, two hours after sunrise you got all these heads showing up now, if the cams look good. Technology is great and has helped us all use our time and resources more wisely, but so many things have become so easy for those who really do not seem to care as much about the bigger picture, they just show up,... try and get theirs... and then leave. Many of these people lack respect for locals, the rules, the beach, or the environment.
So the moral of your story is that locals are the cause of over crowding! No inlanders (in their right mind) are going to make a drive based upon a cam picture
guys, the ocsurfcam will show when the camera server gets bogged down due to high traffic. They have had this issue for a while...
