Got the watchon Firday and had all weekend to use it. General Impressions: Styling is very cool if you like huge watches. It's about the size of a g-shock. Set up was a snap and customization is very nice. Battery life is so-so. Pros- Styling is very nice Customization The surf app is very nice. Can see wave heights and tides for your local break at at a glance. Wearable in the water (so far but you need to remember to shut the seal for the mic) Workout apps are sweet Cons Battery life is ok at best. It has a very annoying tendency to go to sleep very quick. Still trying to find those settings and adjust. Too many pop up notifications Taking calls is weak Is it worth 450 bucks? If you are a gadget geek probably. If not stick to a tried and true and use your phone for swell information.
yeah, I have a hard enough time focusing at work without my watch telling me the waves are firing, so.....
Where is it getting the wave height data from? There are so many surf breaks without any nearby buoy. Swellinfo is showing wave height data for Delaware from a buoy 100+ miles away...is your watch smarter than SI?
I was looking at those watches recently, could not decide if I wanted one, but I don't like huge watches. I have a G shock but a smaller size. So thanks for the report, I am now sure spending the money on one is not for me.
Just get a SharkTide Watch, like $55, it's basic but it has the tides pre-programmed in for all over the world. Nothing metal to attract fish, all black, nothing to be upset about if it gets lost or breaks eventually. It's inexpensive, simple and functional. And believe it or not I get compliments on it from time to time, which doesn't matter to me, but it lets you know it doesn't look bad either.
I just get the very basic one for $55, there are others for more, but not worth it to me. Just to tell time and know what the tide is doing at all times.
ok, so i accessed the tools menu, then productivity submenu then dates/times then local time. it's 11:48
Nixon are junk and the prices they try to charge for some of their watches are laughable. I've owned 3 and none of them lasted more than a year or two. Even a higher end one. Then they want you to pay a fee before they will even look at them to see if they can be repaired under warranty, which most of the times they are not. Company sucks. Better off with a $25 Shark/Freestyle to tell the time in the water if you need it. If you want a real watch, but a Tag or something of good quality.
My Casio G Shock works just fine. Paid $65 for it about 6 years ago and it works marvelously. Good on the tides as well. Doesn't give exact tidal times but pretty accurate whether tide is rising or ebbing...
i already have a high end watch that sits on my dresser and only gets worn for formal functions and Vegas trips (it pays to look like a high roller). Also have 2 Rip Curl Tidemaster watches.
