I have wake boarded before, and I did pretty well with that, after a few tries I had it wired, not doing flips and sh*t, but was able to get to my feet and carve it up. If it's anything like that minus the boat pulling you I think I would dig it.

I would def. get a lesson first.

Agree with the guys that posted earlier. Very little, if any, transferable skills from surfing to snowboarding. I learned to ski first. Skiing has a very low learning curve and you will have fun on your first day. I learned to snowboard a year or two after that and it has a very steep learning curve. I don't remember having much fun that day and don't think I was able to link many turns together before catching an edge and eating fvck. I never took a lesson so I'm not sure how much that would have helped but I think a brief 1 v 1 lesson would probably be beneficial. Most important thing is sticking with it and logging time on the mountain.

    Huh?? East Stroudsburg???
What a fvcking dump of a town!! When my parents moved out of PR, they retired to MT. Pocono, so during college summers, I went to their home to get a summer job. One was in East Stroudsburg. That was 1972; haven't been back since. No more family there, thank god.....
Is he going to the State college there??

Yeah that's not really in the cards for me being in CFL and all, but if I ever relocated (not likely) than I could see doing that. Last time I actually got to do anything in the snow I was a young kid and was in Illinois for a brief stint.

Great!! Good for him and you!!
I am sure it is not easy. Using your brains isn't for pansies; tough job and it can be exhausting.

Yeah that's tough. For me at least, once you learn it's like riding a bike. I've gone a few years between hitting the mountain and can still ride as well as I did when I was on the mountain more frequently. Granted, I'm not hitting rails or doing any big spins anymore.

Not bad, at least you get to do it from time to time.

Ride Report: Blue Mountain, Friday, 1/20/17. F#ck the inauguration, I drove up early and was on the mountain while the masses were watching alternative facts, fake news, etc. Weather was overcast and around 40, rain pushed through around 1230. Minimal crowds and no lift waits.

Nicely groomed with very little icy spots. Took a few runs to get my legs back but had some fun off a few kickers and some of the wider "rails."

I'm sure some of the guys here can relate but it's hard heading out there and telling yourself to "take it easy" and "don't do anything stupid or risky." I find myself saying that but can't help myself when I see a nice little kicker, rail, side path through the woods with a little drop, etc. Same thing happens in surfing. Hope I never lose that actually.

I'm a good skier but that hasn't help me at all with the waves! Not sure if the other way around would help!

There's no doubt that skiing is way more dangerous than surfing in the beginning! Trees and people are the danger. Wiping out on a 3ft wave is nothing like losing control coming down a busy slope! The lessons are to teach you to stop and stay in control. Without that everyone on the mountain is in danger!
