Well, that is the "surf schools" that want to be regulated. I agree--regulate them out of business. In fact, close them down. Makes sense to me.....
El Tardito - I hate it for ya having to deal with the sheet show at WB. Grab your pet squirrel and come down to CB sometime and surf\hang. You'll get to witness the 2nd most legendary move after the Carolina Cutback, the SCREWBY.
def need to cap surf schools. seniority gets in, but if it's a greedy political thang then ya bet whoever offers more money to that city council will take the cake. hell, they're capping yoga lessons on the beach down here. about to charge them for it, which is pretty funny to me for some reason
Limited breaks, unlimited (and growing) number of the yuman virus = govts are gonna jump on that permit-issuing, ticket-writing, fee-generating gravy train any day now There will come a day when you won't be able to surf your local break without a fee-based govt-issued permit; as well, you will be limited to certain times of the day; as well, SUPs & other 'rigid watercraft' will have priority at certain times / conditions/seasons. - - Nostrefarkingdamus
That same crap has happened at CB too... Tony Silvagni has been waging war via Carolina Beach town ordinances for years. He may rip on a LB, but he's just as much a b!tch as Jo Pickett... I know them both... well.
Oceanic Restaurant and Pier is all that needed to be written. Why the fark surf schools would setup there is beyond me. Yeah WB is f-ing crowded in the summer, but the Oceanic Restaurant and Pier area is bad even in the winter. She needs to stop the crying and find a much better place to setup her kookfest.
From her website: 'As the oldest and longest established surf in Southern North Carolina, we lead the charge in manufacturing stoke for our clients.' Yup, you read that right, manufacturing stoke.
i saw his skool of kooks when i made my first visit up that way several months ago. i wanna say that was like 6-8 blocks from the pier. plenty of space to do your own thang from those ppls. he did have a good sized group tho. i don't normally get close to the pier during the summer at Folly, but i was this past wknd with fam in town - staying at lone hotel there. they would close off 3 blocks each way from the pier, and then have a number of schools on both sides. so it's like a 5 block walk to get away from the majority of ppl there. really need to regulate the surf camps if WB hasn't done that yet
Most of us have seen the good old days of surfing. It's all getting out of control with these overprotective parents sheltering their "babies". Now is the time to introduce more ocean predators into our waters. If I where a filmmaker I would blast the media with all the perils that happen in surfing, not all this glam, ***y, bullsh!t, shaka throwing, surfschool crap that you see these days. At least give me my 25+yrs hopefully, to go; and let me enjoy a free ride while I still can. Thank you Metard for bringing another surf atrocity into the light!
