hell yeah! One of the best swells I have ever surfed as a kid at the time. How bout Isabel and Frances? If they don't think NC can hold big swell (D-OH), this will be a learning experience for many newbies. Bob came much closer, was much smaller and think it was a small cat 2 when it rolled up the coast.

    Well,

If this swell turns out to be identical to what hurricane Bob did in 1991, then we are in for quite a treat. Hurricane Bob had nearly the same path than the predicted Hurricane Bill path which would mean 10-14 foot swells hitting the beach at long intervals. I was 12-years old, and was the only person (not just kid) to be out in the water within a half mile in Rockaway Beach. When the downpour of rain stopped, I ran into the water with a prayer and an old school Mach 7-7. What I got out of it was the ride of a lifetime, and my first time in major hurricane swell. Surfer magazine was out taking photos as well as the local paper in my hometown. They nailed a shot of me going down a 14-foot face. I think I still have that article somewhere....

That storm was before my time. My first taste of storm swell was Felix in 1995. I believe it topped off at category 4, but I don't know what it was when it was closer to NJ. Good times though, I remember that much. :D

Summer/Fall 1995 was the best season ever for us in N.C.. I just started that year and Felix was the first real good swell I had surfed. If I remember correctly it was glassy the whole time, or at least everyday I surfed it. I think it got up to double-overhead at Wrightsville Beach, but I wasn't out the biggest day. Hurricane Luis is what I judge everything by. I'm not sure the specific date, but one morning it was sheet-glass, line after line of overhead barrels, the best I have ever seen it. If anybody has any pics from those swells at Wrightville Beach please post them.

What's crazy is that someone born in 1991 could be 18!

Bob's conditions were Epic!!! Left UNC-W from playing ultimate and showed up at Johnny Mercer's to nothing but Glass Tubes smacking the top of the pier!! Was video taped pulling 360's deep in the barrels (tubes so big you could drive a VW Bus through them!

I just looked at the live cam's at the beach... the waves are not even close to that day.. The "Bob Day" is like a once in Wrightsville Beach lifetime day!!
