For any longboarders out there, i just wanted people to give their opinions on what break is their favorite for longboarding/hulling. Some may like fast waves other slow and crumbly. let us know. not asking for secret spots...just opinions.
I had a great time logging in Tamarindo when I was there in 2001. I mainly ride 10' single fins so I prefer anything that is not super dumpy. Ideally I would love a right hand point with long waist-chest lines. I usually surf locally at a spot near a river, inlet, and bridge
easy (not counting cali point waves)- uptown ocean city maryland with a clean chest high or better swell, stiff offshores, fast top to bottom waves borderline closeouts. You arent going to be doing a bunch of turns anyway so paddle the tanker early into the pit and see if you can drive through.
Asse...Thats def one of my fav spots as well. not just the surfing, its such a nice beach and you can bring dogs there has anyone been down there latly? i havent been down since sept i heard it got abit torn up from the storms.
Sunset Clliffs My longboard sessions are few and far between, but this is where I take the 9 footer. Sick spot. I love shortboarding it, but on some bigger days, the long board turns into the high performance stick on waves like this. Even when its really small... ITS SOOOO FUN. I have pushed my chick into a wave on a LB out here in the summer and she rode like 100 yards. She cant barely stand up!
Actually no it didnt, And Yes it is my board of Choice. They are pushing the longboard design to new places. Chris Del Moro & Matt Calvani are 2 of the best shapers out there today , There designs are taking longboarding to new places. Here get your learn on http://www.bingsurf.com/index.html I dont drink the latest and greatest Kool Aid out there . What worked in the 70's is still as good or even better today
glad you like the pic. my daughter took it when she was 15. she is 16 now (and got her drivers license yesterday--omfg!!!). she takes a lot of nice shots. Assateague has a lot to see if you look closely--especially if you have a 4wd. Happy Easter to all. Hope spring has finally sprung.
Assateague is my favorite spot for long boarding. You can get some long rides if the bars are set up right. Chinco is probably the best part of Assa. Almost any size wave will do. Its also great for short board or fish. I like to walk way up the beach with a fish and surf some secret secluded spots whenevr possible. the longest spot I've surfed is Boca Baranca in Costa Rica. Nice slow moving left point break over a 1/4 mile long. Cant even see where you took off its so long. You have to watch out for Caymen when it rains. They tend to come out of the river mouth then.
Ditto on AI, surfed there a bunch last summer and it was really chill. Last time I was there the bars were pretty effed up but that was some time ago. It was a really long paddle across a deep trough and waves were dumping hard on the outside bar. any recent reports? Chinco is a nice scene, very few surfers. I've also ridden Boca Barranca though I've never gotten it going off. Super long lefts, stomach high that just goes and goes and goes... really fun for loggers.
Assateague is fun in the summer when I have the time to drive over there. But in the fall, when I head down to the OBX, the pier in Buxton usually lines up pretty nice lefts.
Lots of changes at Chinco since the big one last fall. I was last there in December. Just me and a fisherman. Perfect waist high sets. Theres actually a somewhat false point up the beach (if you want to call it that). Creating a very long left point. The ocean carved out a huge piece of beach almost reaching the forest. You can walk out on it and look back at the beach. Headed out next week or so to check it out.
