I haven't seen a recent thread on this topic. I need a damn watch, as my old cheap one sort of died. I am tired of not knowing what time it is while surfing. What are some opinions on decent surf watches? I am trying not to spend much more than $100, because I am not wealthy like Emass. The main requirements are tide info for charleston area (Folly is ok), decent durability, and a bonus would be sunrise/sunset info. Right now the Nixon Lowdown II seems to be the best deal, but there are mixed reviews. Let me know what you experienced guys would suggest.
Brew, go to shopcasio.com and look at their watches. Their watches are classified under names such as G-shock, Sports, Classic, etc. Some are very expensive, some are less than $100 bucks. You can get a decent tide watch for less than that. Some are hideously expensive, but those are usually pilot watches, hikers ,etc. I own the following model tide watch- WS210H-1AV casio in sport watch section. $40. Works pretty well.
I've been rockin' an under $20.00 casio from target for a couple of years. It doesn't have the tide stuff but it gets me to work on time (usually). Bass Pro shops used to have some reasonably priced watches ( $50.00 to $100.00) with moon, tide and alarms so you may want to check them out. I kill watches quick so I just get the cheap ones now. Good luck.
My SharkTide was like 60 bucks and it's pretty on point, function over fashion but I get compliments on it, it's just a basic all black nothing flashy, which I like because it won't attract fish
i wear the nixon supertide. i got it at a sample sale around here for 100 bucks and it was totally worth it
Actually, my last watch was the dirt cheap time only Shark. Loved it, but lots of abuse ended its life. I wanted a shark Tide, but the closest tide programmed in it was for Myrtle. The Nixon has Charleston and Folly, and the black one is like $90 on amazon.
You guys wear a watch ? Man that big ol bright thing in da morning if you look east is our friend the sun use it respectfully and always be on island time .
Wal Mart Timex Ironman waterproof watch was $12-- had it four years now, still running. But it only tells you the time and it will time stuff and count laps if you swim
wife got me a nixon lodown. I like it. Big enough band I can wear it over a wetsuit as long as im not wearing gloves.
I think I am just going to try that one. Comes with a 2 year replacement warranty on Amazon, so that is a plus.
