Going in September for the weekend and want to bring a board and surf. Willow Creek looks like the go to... anything else to do there/places to surf? Gracias Amigos ... and Betty
Sharky. And pretty localized. But if I were to pick a spot or 2, Moss Landing would be one of them if you like thumping barrels and the occasional 18 foot Whitey. Andrew Molina State Park has safe consistent waves. if a good South is pumping through up there, do drop by at the Grimes Point Scenic Overlook. Proceed down the cliff and into the lineup at your own peril though.
To expand upon my first comment... I stayed + surfed in Big Sur for a week in June of last year. Camped in Andrew Molera and had a blast with some of the locals. They were super friendly. One memorable story from Andrew Molera was when I saw a group of three wookie hippie friends try to cross the river mouth. The fat, greasy one dumped their stash bag in the river and doused the groups phones (and doobies). It ended with two of the three people cursing at the one wook while walking away and the perpetrator yelling, "GUYS, I LOVE YOU!". This was while I was changing into my skivvies in the bushes.
I will third: Sand Dollar Beach! Went there years ago, I think there is a camp site right around there where we stayed while traveling through. Had the place to our selves. The big rock out there... yea it's covered in bird poop lol Water was super clear. Waves where probably the best there while on that trip... taking into consideration that there was a nice sized swell and no crowds... if your surfing alone and looking for ppl to surf with- idk if you'll get that there btw I would guess it's ususally empty?? A very memorable spot.
This is the most under-rated comment in months my mind is getting fuller and fuller at the thought key word being peril
Just gotta be totally non-descript and low-pro, sit down the shoulder and grab the ones they don't get. paddle out with a CI, ...lost or Tomo with your Patagucci or Vissla and you will get boned before you touch water
staying in monterey near del monte beach so seems like carmel is closest spot that looks fun. Is sand dollar worth the 2 hr drive?
