Anybody have experience with hanging your board from the ceiling. I would like it to fit a few inches from the ceiling and have the top or bottom parallel to the ceiling. Just trying to get some ideas on how to do it or what others may have been successful with already
string, simple. give yourself some room though, it can be a pain in the ass tryin to get them down, easy to bang them up. wall mounts are butter
install 2 ceiling loop hooks whatever distance away from each other fits your board, they look something like this: http://www.hardwarestore.com/media/product/504566_front200.jpg (mine are a closed circle but i don't think it matters) then i took 2 bungee cords and slid them through the hooks, connecting the ends at the bottom so they formed 2 slots for the board to hang from its pretty annoying getting the board in and out but they're good for display
I have had my board on the ceiling for years- specially long boards- and have not had any problems. I have done what everyone else had mentioned- and if your tall enough its not hard to take them down or put them back up. \r\n\r\nFind some nicer looking rope- like 1/4 inch thick or something- west marine has some cool looking sailing rope. Then get 2 eye screws and 2 hook screws at the hardware store. Use one or each of the screws to put in the front and one of each for the back- make sure you screw them into a joist or something- not just drywall or the board will fall down. Make a sling with the rope for the nose and the tail- and here is the trick- for the back- (and the front)- tie one end of the rope to the eye screw and measure it so it holds up the board to the proper hight- then on the other side make a big loop with the rope (tie the rope in loop) so you can put the loop on the hook- so its super easy to take down and put up- you just have to unhook half (with the loop)and only the back- you can slide the nose of the board in and out of the front. Works like a charm. \r\n
i bought 'hook-ups' from www.surfindustries.com. they have FCS, future and single fin box hangers that slide into the plugs on your board and are very easy to use. I bought cheap hardware from Home Depot that I mounted to my ceiling and now I can hang 10 surfboards where I could only store one (horizontally) before. They sell them in sets of 10 on the website but I was able to buy them as separates from Sweetwater Surf Shop in NC and they mailed them to me. Definitely worth it.
