Trying to figure out the cheapest trips that other's have been on.

from my own experience, my cheapest has been to El Paredon Guatamala for a week
    flight 320$ roundtrip from BWI
    7$ a night
15$ food/beer day (more than enough)
    140$ airport pickup round trip
    I went in the spring.

If anyone has had any cheap trips that they want to share, so I could possibly get outta the frigid atlantic for awhile that would be appreciated.

I hear the water never drops below 50 in Belmar, NJ.

    Dear Lord of Stoke,

I am the Satan of Stoke! You got ripped off! I live in VA and spent less than that on my trip to Belly yo. If you're a real hooligan, you could try Delly!

    Yours truly,

    Satanic Stoke

SW airlines $300 R/t to San Diego, hopefully skate on the board fees.
$200 car rental for the week...preferably a ****ty looking Hyandai...anything as long as the back seat folds down.
camp, eat In and Out Burgers, Roberto's fish tacos all week
Surf Windansea, Blacks, Trestles, Swamis, Church, Ponto, etc.
    Spend $800, make 800 new friends...quickly

edit - Yeah.. P.R. is the better option.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I wanted to see if anyone knows of any cheap/decent places to crash around Sandy Beach or Maria's? Within walking distance to the beach...

Last time I went to PR we stayed at the Hotel Casa Verde which was just up the hill from Sandy's (like 200 yds) and an easy 15 minute walk to Domes/Marias

My recollection is the room was about $70 / night with two beds so split in two it was cheap, secure, and the outside bar was a fun hangout with good burgers and tostones.

Hotel del Club Surf, in Popoyo Nicaragua. Went in May and June, 18 a night with breakfast on the beach. 10-20 a day would supply beer/flora de cana, with another 2 meals. The place at the end of popoyo has a 4 dollar meal with a drink!

I stayed at that place in Nic and it was good when i was there. You can really surf cheap in EL Sal if you don't have high needs for rooms...there are some rooms for 10$ with two beds down there and pupusas are like 4 for a buck or something crazy. Costa Rica and PR are NOT cheap...but great places to go. Everything in Central America is off season except a few North facing places in Mexico and the sports like Dominical and Escondido that always have waves. Mexico remains cheap as and Escondido still breaks in the winter just not huge. Thats where I would go. Northern Peru is sick and very cheap and you don't need a wetsuit and the surf is IN season....although it's only half consistent. You can always drive to Florida although that isn't really a "surf"trip...but there have been waves there a lot for the last month...have fun

Wherever you go try to fly Virgin. They're always a little more expensive (50-75 bucks) but you'll get a way nicer experience and no boards fees cause they don't charge

PR is where its at! cheapest and easiest east coast trip to tropical waters in the winter. I remember years ago staying at a hostel, it was like 10 or 20 a night, a little further up the hill and to the left. I think it was called Surf and Board or something...also always see that spirit airlines out of AC goes there cheap, but I never flew it

Dominican isn't bad and real cheap. Flights are under $400 usually. You can stay for about $25/night including breakfast and dinner. Waves aren't as good as PR, but still lots of fun and warm! Cabarete is a fun little town.

Puerto Rico. Fly spirit, stay someplace low key, eat tacos and empandadas, drink lots of MEDALLA. I've done it every year the past 3 years for less than $1000. Flight + boards, stay, food, drink, smoke. The waves aren't as good as other places south of the boarder but its the cheapest. Also, 85 degree water.

Stayed at the Dos Angeles del Mar Guesthouse in '08 at Sandy Beach. Really nice place run by a surfer from the Northeast.

Uh, waves are not even close to PR or Nica especially. And Cabarete is blown out every day by 10am, like clockwork. Although the chicas.....hmmmmmm....
