My last couple of times out I've been getting some sharp pains on the knee I use to duck dive (Mucho dolor). Feels like a severe rug burn underneath the kneecap whenever I pressure it onto the board. It's pretty sore after and the next day but not showing any signs of discoloration atop the knee cap itself and really doesn't restrict my walking in anyway. It's not clicking or anything like that, just hurts when I'm diving. Just curious if anyone has had this and what was the diagnosis? Also any suggestions on how to wrap the knee while in the water . No medical insurance to get an MRI or anything so I have to ask and would appreciate any advice based on experience. Thanks
my knees are all scar tissue from them getting cut up all the time duck diving and just dragging around on my traction pads
well ill help you to wrap it, as my knee will dislocate so sometimes i wrap it up. but what i do is i have a cheap knee brace that i bought at a pharmacy store and i will just wear that. also you could get some of that m3 medical tape and wrap it around your knee, im not sure how it will hold in the water but when i wear it to work out with it holds when im all sweaty. but i do have to warn you it will pull the hairs off your knee so you might wanna just shave the knee. but take pain medications and just do stretches for the knee.
i had to vasiline my knees everynight in costa rica. its hard to have the energy to pop/jump up without draggin those knees.... if it to hot for a 2 mill to cover your knees you gota put a quick layer of saran rap over them.
If there's substantial swelling then it's probably prepatellar bursitis, if not it could be the start of chondromalacia or you could just be over stressing your ligaments and meniscus... At any rate, it doesn't sound like anything that requires serious treatment. You should probably start using your other knee to push your board down for the next couple weeks so that you can allow those soft tissues time to heal. If it's happening to both knees you'll definitely want to get some knee padding (not just medical wrap, something with some cushioning) so you can relieve some of the stress you're putting on your knee when you're diving. Also, ice and ibuprofen works wonders for this type of thing.
