Dear Barry, Thanks - I knew I could always count on you, specially to show us guys around to your secret chum spots. So could I borrow when of your boards when I come up there? I usually ride wave storm boards. If you surf with us, I will buy you a pizza for being our new surfer friend. So... When are you gonna come to surf the Belmar? Your new pal Mr Belmar
Nah, wasn't bad at all. Surfed from 7 - 10 there, mostly solo until the very end. Pumping at dead low. The Montreal'ers mostly pack up Jenesse, which is a good beginners beach. The cold water is still keeping the hordes at bay. I'm *still* in my 6mil.
Had a pleasant morning (away from lil Montreal) except for driving thru to turn around and that Fing kook transport camper rig with the unfolding stairs almost got taken out by CWV . Squeeze me macaroni slop your face with my balogna ... Jeez
Hampton is like the Seaside, NJ of NH. Its an overrated, over-crowded wave worth more as a place to be seen then as a place to surf. Hell it even has a board walk. Rye isn't overrated, that place can hold a gnarly left on a big day. It does not allow itself for a big lineup though. There is all of 3 good spots in NH and 2 of them break only under really specific conditions. If you want Hampton surf but less crowd go to Salisbury. If you want to surf waves for almost any type of condition go to ME.
Last Friday evening was pumping at Saco bay where the wind blows right and the swell is big enough to make it in and produce...met some guys out calling people in - best time (but not best session) in a long time...almost beats going to the rocky place when it's pumping but the kooks and the anti social machismo kill the vibe
Oh yeah, always check out the Hampton cam on Surfline...always looks meh, with occasional good, but often looks like a circus...the rainbows cam can look enticing, but man, that's a long way with a lot of tolls to go
Yes, you are absolutely 100% right. Best to go to ME or MA fer sure, definitely. 6 Canadians to a wave in NH.
Rye? NOT overrated??? hahahahahaha!! It is, no matter what size, wayyyyyy over-rated!! Same wave, over and over, over and over. It is exactly why I encourage moronic visitors to go there. Was it me that sent you there?? lol....Boring wave. In New England, Maine and Cape Cod hold the best breaks when large swell is about. NH is okay for lazy days when it isn't worth driving elsewhere. Ruggles, in RI, is probably the best break in NE during a southern swell due to hurricanes.
I don't know I haven't lived in the area for over 10 years now, but back when I did it wasn't over-rated on a big day. I'm not talking everyday. For a lazy surf day ya go to the wall or the cove or wherever but it was one of the few deeper places that could really a big wave from long period swell. I caught bombs there that I'd never catch in NJ, they would just close out down here. Maybe it's kook city now like the wall but it wasn't too bad back then. As far south as Salisbury and as far north as Higgins beach there is a break for almost any kind of condition and that was good enough for me. And ya RI will always be better. That's the problem with New England surf, Cape Cod blocks all that southern swell. That said I was never trying to drive 2 hours to go surf, I tried to keep within an hour.
