So what do you guys like to read that's surfing related? Any good suggestions for books? I personally like a biographical account best.

Just finished reading "Barbarian Days" and i highly highly recommend it. It was my escape from work during the middle of the day. Will Finnegan can write. I could literally see myself in his shoes. He basically travels the world surfing and encounters a bunch of new cultures along the way. It's really quite inspiring. Made me want to be more adventurous. And the way he accounts for the imagery of a wave and particular landscape is just sick. You feel like you're there.

Just got Surfer's SoCal surfing guide since I'll be there next week. I need something to look at before I go plus I figured it would provide interesting insight.

Whats in your book case, on your coffee table, or next to the Sh1tter?

I actually haven't read a good book in quite a while. Usually I go to SI for all my good reading. Ha Ha

Back when I was a grom and we wore animal skins for board shorts, I had a book called "Surfing California" by Bank Wright. Compiled iin the early 70's, it can still be purchased online. It was my Bible as a kid and introduced me to many spots from Imperial Beach to Eureka.

Its well written and has a lot of pictures, albeit in black & white. The information is good, although some spots sadly no longer exist. And of course, other spots like Maverick's didn't yet exist.

Overall a fun read with relevant surf info. YMMV

I am almost through that book. It's great, no doubt, but he seems like an elitist d!ckweed. My two cents.

Haha I can see how you get that vibe. And if I was living with a dude that didn't like to wear deodorant I'd be pretty pissed to - not sure if you've gotten there yet. But overall, it's definitely interesting. I feel like it would be a whole lot harder to just drop everything and go in today's day and age.

Thanks for the other posts everyone. I'm really not much of a reader but surfing books keep me intrigued. I will certainly check out some of those titles.
