so i recently bought a baked potato with future fin system. This is a first time using the system and after a few sessions I noticed my tail kinda heavy. So I took a glance and notice that the box fills with water. Is there a solution for this? Thanks in advance

I always assumed futures took up more area and more weight than fcs.. as well as cause drag but I have thrown this up on the boards here and peiople tend to agree that its in your head about the fin boxes causing drag (thats what I am inferring since howdaheck else can they fill up??"

it's a fact the future system is overall heavier than FCS. If nothing else, the bases of Futures just contain more material. Coring them out definitely lightens them up out of water, but those spaces then fill up with water (is water heavier than fiberglass?).

There's no evidence Futures cause more drag...actually, I'd think the spaces in between an FCS fin and board would cause slightly more.

I started using Futures only because my (former) local shaper disliked routing FCS boxes. Now, I use them exclusively because I think they're just a more solid system (although I haven't used FCS2).

EDIT: are you talking about the empty fin boxes? Future makes a fin box "filler", but they're kinda hard to find. Check ebay.

Do they stay filled out of the water? B/c if not, then just buys fillers, as previously suggested.

Well because when I take the fins out, water just spits out of the fin box

So water is between the fins and the box. Weird. I've never seen it happen. I'd contact a surf shop or maybe future.

that's normal. As I said, the cored out parts of the base will fill up with water. Depending on how tight your box is (or how quickly you remove the fins after a sesh), water may stay in the box until you remove the fins.

However, don't think the grass is greener on the other side - FCS may not hold water in the box, but they have an equal amount of their own issues.

Heavy when carrying the board or does the tail feel different when you're surfing? You could fill the voids with water and it would be a negligible amount of weight.

What were you surfing before? The BP has a bigger tail than a lot of boards. Is it possible you're just feeling the board performing differently?

If you can detect the change in weight of a surfboard due to the tiny amount of water being stored in futures boxes, you need to apply for a job with the U.S. Bureau of Weights and Measures because they spend millions of dollars on high tech equipment that is no more sensitive than you are!

Normal when removing fins, but no way in hell it will cause you to feel the heaviness in the rear of the board and adds 0 weight to your board. It's in your head and nothing wrong with the fin boxes.

You are surfing on a modified boogie board, i'm pretty sure you could duct tape a ****ing tree branch to the fin box and get close to the same performance.

Water has neutral buoyancy in water. Don't worry about it.

You are sublimating excess "I wanna surf" energy. Focusing on inconsequential minutiae. Common when the surf sucks and you can't surf. My own personal cure is to prepare the gear for when it gets fun out front then put it aside. Then get a productive past time. Build a chicken coop. Paint the bedroom. Fix the leaky plumbing. Work on jalopies. Play music. Groom the dog. Build a sick half pipe. Work the shoobies for some cash and plan a surf trip for some real surf.
    Frickin' east coast summers.
