Yea a 3.5 hour drive is dedication and always a crapshoot. But it could be perfect and hate to miss that. still a few days to decide

Guys... I hate to break it to ya, but Frisco just get unmanageable when its that big... It starts breaking way out on the 3rd bar, the paddle out is terrible, the current gets to be ridiculous, and it really just closes out...

Where ya really wanna be surfing is the point, but you cant access that anymore... Damn Plovers!!!!

Anyways, you can try and surf frisco that big, but take it from me... Its probably gonna be gnarly as it gets... To quote someone else it will be "Great, if you like death paddle outs, insane currents, and sideways triple ups." Also I would be cautious of debris in the water, cause the pier just got destroyed in the last swell...

Anyways, If you do go, I hope it is manageable and I hope you score... I once surfed frisco about double overhead when it was actually manageable, didn't last long, but definitly dropped in on some bombs... not to mention taking more than a few on the head...

    Good Luck to ya...

Here are some pics of the Frisco area post Danielle swell in a similiar situation; (except smaller) hard offshore winds, some double ups, closeouts, current, hard paddling, powerfull and sharky looking! LOL.

I would love to be there, if not to just look at it but it is a 3.5 hour drive for me also.

BoneSurf you are right we need a point break, jetty, river mouth, wreck (Boilers?) Would you be refering to Pea Island in your point reference?

i know of 4 good points with south facing beach within 4 hours of vb. So does google earth. The only problem is getting to them.
    1. Frisco is pretty easy

    2. Fishermans island will likely be smoking but we all know that story

    3. a spot that is always surfed alone and that I wont name (central eastern shore) is accessable by 4x4 only, And finally......

    4. The last time I drove over the herbert c bonner bridge (earl saturday), i noticed some picture perfect lefts reeling off of the south facing side of oregon inlet, as far south as you can drive a 4x4 at low tide. My buddy and I were drooling out the window of my 2wd car. Im not sure how willing I am go hop in the water that close to the inlet either, those are some pretty sharky and turbulant waters.... but DDAAMMMM. Not a soul on it.

leethestud could #4 have been Boilers? (named for the boiler stack on the shipwreck near oregon inlet, 5 miles past ranger station). So still no access on Pea Island at all because of the piping plover?

s tiurn is sort of a point break.

    Wow!

So, a 3 hour drive to sketchy waves in sharky water with no guarantees....holy crap, it sounds like a real surf trip! That's what it's all about guys. Everything is so easy these days with the internet that you miss the real fun of it: the adventure, the uncertainty, the crazy s@#$ that happens along the way. That's all part of the fun, and don't be afraid of it! I'll be hauling ass down there with my buddies and our boards, a few blankets, firewood, and a case of beer. :) Figure out the rest later.

You guys need to stop talking about it and go. How do you think most people find the good spots? Years of patiently searching, or meeting a local who realizes you aren't a douchebag hooking you up.

And no, he isn't talking about boilers. He is talking about the inlet itself.

not allowed to set foot on the beach. The only way is to take a boat or kayak from the boat launch in the first town, about 3-5 miles north of the island. If they see you surfing with no boat, they will be waiting for you on the beach. Its a hefty fine, and iv even heard of having boards confiscated.
