Hey all, just heading over to the Vineyard for a couple of days next month. Should I bother bringing my board? I know there's good surfing there in the Summer but I don't know where. Any ideas??
And this is a one time hit for me. I won't be in your face every weekend. I'm a beginner so I try to stay away from the rocky shores and bottoms. Thanks very much.

if you're a beginner, you should give south beach a go. it's near edgartown and there are tons of signs for it. if there is anything coming up and hitting the southfacing stuff (newport RI, long island, etc), there will be waves there. if you're feeling a bit ballsier, there is a place called squibnocket in chilmark but there is a rocky bottom and good surfers there if there's anything worth surfing.

South Beach in Edgartown is not a great beachbreak. I would go to squibnocket and surf the reef, which is to the right of the parking lot if your facing the water. Although it has a rock bottom, there are no rocks that stick out, nor are there any big rocks, and it's a real mellow wave, great for longboarding, perfect for beginners. Just respect the locals and you'll be alright.

I'm going to be in Edgartown and close to South Beach which I've swam in before. It does have a short break from what I recall. But I could get over to squibnocket pretty easy too. Thanks I'll strap the board on the vehicle and see what happens.

    Appreciate the input.

    Surfing on the Vineyard

Dont go to South Beach. Squibby is your best bet. There is also a peak to the left of the parking lot that we call rockpile. In general though you need to be a local with connections to get to the good breaks.

    Thanks VS,

I'll just stick to the public access spots. I'll have my family and friends down with me so I'll just be sneaking off for a quick session if the swell is good.

    Cheers
