Lost 25 lbs since last winter, and now all of my wetsuites are too big. I need a new 3/2, and was looking at Matuse. Been reading old threads on here and elsewhere, and the big complaint I consistently hear relates to durability. However, all those reviews were from 2008-2011ish. Wondering if they have corrected that over the past few years. Do any of you own, or know someone who owns a matuse purchased in the past year or two? If so, what's your/their take? Price notwithstanding, would you buy another?
Ive heard Mixed reviews . Some say they are warm and flexible people like them and some say they fall apart in a few years . I have a friend who got one recently and he loved it last winter . He still has it so I guess its a good suit
I bought the Matuse 3/2 hoplite in about 2009. It's the warmest 3/2 I've ever owned, the geoprene really is amazing the way it doesn't absorb any water, and is still in pretty decent shape 5 years later. I wear it a lot, and don't abuse it. I did spend about $300 on it, but its given me my money's worth. They aren't as light or stretchy as something like the Rip Curl E3 rubber is. Make sure you try them on...Matuse's don't size out the same way as Xcels or Rip Curls for example.
I also need a new wetsuit setup and was considering Matuse. I've got a friend that still uses their 3/2 from like 2008 and you wouldn't be able to tell. Are the Rip Curls as warm? I'm looking for a new winter suit and want something a little more flexible than my old cypher (but still has to be toasty).
I never owned a 5mm. Rip Curl, just 3/2s. Their top line neoprene (E3 in the past, now E4) has always amazed me how stretchy and flexible it is.
Bought a 3/2 Matuse in 07(I think), it was great then the shoulders deteriorated. Lived in SD at the time and drove to the factory. Got a new one to replace it for 1/2 price and they fixed the old one for free. I had the replacement suit for 5 years before selling it for 100 bux. Longest Ive ever hung onto a suit. It felt great. The med. felt a little smaller than other company's mediums. Been wearing the new e4 stuff from RC this year, FB and EB, no complaints. I would go with Matuse if I could get the same deals as RC. RC is more flexible but something about that Matuse just felt better to me.
Warmest suits I've owned - and not entirely over-the-top expensive if you are patient & wait for a good sale. They do a sale every year on 'Cyber Monday' - I think it's 25% off. I bought their previous year/already-discounted suits on their Cyber Monday sale & got a great deal considering the quality of the suits. Warmest & best suits I've owned. As previously mentioned, they absorb almost no water. More environmentally friendly materials, too, if you care about trying to cut down on the pollutants running into our oceans.
If you end up liking them & buying them online, you also get 'Matuse Dollars' for each purchase, which add to discounts for future suits. & They don't limit any of their sale discounts, so you can buy an already discounted suit, with a one-day sale price, with your Matuse dollar discount. If you're smart, they don't have to end up being so expensive.
