So, we wont revisit the Nixon conversations of years past, but long story short, the wife got me the LODOWN tide watch for christmas cause the battery in my freestyle tide watch finally died after 8 years.

They other day, the light button stopped producing light and when you would hit the button, the watch system would reboot itself.... It just did it again... the date resets to 2010 and all this stuff. Now, the mode button doesnt respond. I cant even set it back to the correct tide and date... its stuck on encinitas, in 2010....

I assume my only option is to take it back to the surf shop, have them send it out for service, which always take like a freaking month...

Anyone ever tinker with fixing one of these things, or do i have to bite the bullet and just be without one for like a month or 2 and send it back?

I have had one for about a year now, and other than the tide being off for VB no problems at all.

Word of advice... never buy another Nixon. Buy a Ripcurl or Freestyle. Nixon WILL give you the trouble equivalent to sneaking into Fort Knox to get that watch fixed. First and foremost they'll charge you for a problem that is obviously their fault, and make you jump through loads of hoops to actually get it sent in for repair. And when it finally in their hands it'll be half an eternity before they decide to think about fixing it.

Yeah, it was a gift. I love the watch. The problem is that i have worn it out surfing like 3 times a week or so all winter and i think it just couldnt take it or something. Whatever though, I cant wear a tidewatch stuck two years ago. Now with the wrong time too... So ill take it in to the shop. I think Nixon is somewhat local to me, so typpically when sending wetsuits and stuff back they are legit. I still have my freestyle. The little band holding ring broke off, but it works great still. Maybe i will get a new battery for the freestyle while the Nixon is away...

At any rate, the reason i asked is just to see if guys had just got a new battery or tinkered with the watch themselves with any success.

My buddy has the Lowdown and his broke shortly after he got it. When he got in contact with them they told him that you can't press the buttons while you are in the water. They sent him out a new one for free though. I have a couple non-tide Nixon watches and never had a problem with them.
