Dog Shat is the main culprit. I can't believe how many a-holes don't pick up their dogs crap. Use a diaper, u treat them like babies anyway!
...or, just as bad, they bag the sh!t, then leave the full bag right where the sh!t was. The bag biodegrades and the sh!t is still there.
Dog sheet is the least of the causes. Shoobies, Bennies, Tourons, Donks.......whatever you want to call them that flood our beach towns are the problem. Overworking the sanitation system for 3 months out of the year.
Makes you wonder how nasty the water is in the winter with the gnarly storms or snowmelt, etc. makes its way into the ocean and no one is taking bacteria readings...
I have to agree, it can get pretty bad at times, especially after storms and run-off. The geological factor is unique in that you have the Raritan River to the west, which is an industrial cesspool, the Hudson River to north which isn't too bad, until it drains out into the Kill Van Kull, which is a toxic nightmare and the Delaware River to the south that picks up every bit shiit from Trenton and Philly down to Cape May. I still like to call it home. I admit, I miss the place sometimes.
who cares I always thought salt water cleans everything, not like ur in a swimming pool or a lake, shyt, literally shyt is moving out there so its floating out to sea. I rarely ever about biohazards out there,i remember after sandy my ironworker buddy told me stay out the ocean for a while, dont eat the fish, said there was a major leak or some shyt.anyway people were surfing days later, and theyr still alive. also ur supposed to rinse off when u get out the water lol. and for the needles in sh.shhhh u find more needles than seashells, plenty of emptys, crack vials or whatever those tiny bottles are lol, tampons, lots and lots and lots of tampons too. nj rocks
Interesting. I've been taking it upon myself to pick up trash for like 5 minutes after every surf. It's amazing how much crap humans leave behind. The ocean deserves better! A little effort can go a long way when others join the cause. Think aboot it. Treat her like you would treat lady, with RESPECK.
About 15 years ago we had bunch of needles showing up locally. Unfortunately, I found one with my foot, and had to go get a bunch of shots and tests done. Came out of it with a clean bill of health, but yea... dirty beaches and dirty water sucks.
