Hey team, I am taking a trip to Costa Rica this December. Staying at the Harmony Hotel in Nosara. Have any of you been to Nosara? Any recommendations on best place to surf, where to eat, best place to rent a board, or anything else? Any and all input is welcome. Thanks.
nosara go by innocent surf school for some knowledgeable info regarding surrounding area. just up the street (inland) from the harmony, they also rent epoxy pop outs and up by the top of that street there is a surf shop that rents a wide variety, from poly shortboards to longboards as well as epoxies. you should also try some of the best food in the region that is just before you reach garza, the next small fishing town to the south, at a restaurant called dona ana's, if you have a vehicle, but a cab ride would be well worth it as well. straight down to the beach from the harmony, the surf is more forgiving on the southern stretch in front of the small graveyard and as you head a bit north it can be more varied. to the north, over the point you'll see a nutty looking hotel and on the other side of that is playa pelada that has a reef in front of a small local restaurant. it won't take much more than a day to get your bearings. you might also look/call for paul buehner of nosara verde, he rents houses, for other info. have fun, it's a lovely place.
Nosara is a great place to stay..There is Marlin Bills right in town.GREAT PLACE TO EAT!! Straight down the road is the beach.Great surf just dont leave your stuff on the beach.IT WILL WALK OFF.If your looking for a place to stay,Casa Da Moonwalk is awesome.I have stayed there with a mission team.Sandy (Jota) is a great host. He has boards to use and could set u up with a local women to cook for u.I recommend it.Nothing like real food from costa.Norsara is mixed with americans and locals. They also have good massages from a long day of surf.
Hey go to Coconut Harris, talk to Tinis or Luigi both great people that will help you on renting a board, tell them Laramerci send you and they`ll give you a discount. The food at the Harmony Hotel y amazing, superb food.... For something cheaper go to la Soda next to Coconut Harris, here you will find great cheap Costa Rican food... To surf all Guiones beach is surfers paradise and more on December, offshore winds blowing all day long.... Ostional is near Guiones with some perfect barrels....
How was your trip? I took two trips to Nosara in high school, greatest times of my life. Heard it was starting to get real crowded by a friend that went last year. How were the crowds?
I'm in the process of planning a trip this May, I narrowed it down to two places, one of them is Costa Rica, and picked Nosara since it seemed like there are plenty of stuff to do there. Questions are related to our budget, since I"m trying to cut down on overall costs due to my sis and her bf wanting to come, but they're in college so they don't have as much money to spend on the trip. When you flew into CR, you probably arrived at San Jose, how did you go from San Jose Airport to Nosara? I heard driving was an option, around a 5-6 hour drive. There are also flights available through Nature air, looking at prices is around $160/person round trip. I'm thinking driving would be easier since we're a total of 4 peeps. How difficult is the drive from the airport to Nosara? Never been to CR before. Thanks
I just did the ride in January. It is easy and a whole lot of fun! If you plan on exploring I would get a suv (big or small) or a pickup, you'll be glad you did
If you need updated information on getting to Nosara and what to do once you are there, it is listed on the CRsurf.com Nosara page. You can find links to surf camps, hotels, surf shops, rentals, and tours. Plus when there are events taking place, it will posted on their latest bulletins section. http://www.crsurf.com/nosara.html
If you have a garmin you can find maps for CR that are around 50 bucks online. I've never used the ones for CR but used them in Nicaragua last year and saved us countless times from getting lost.
Also what are the best breaks in this area? I'm heading down there next week and everytime I check the surf reports it looks like mushy waves or closeouts.
