Don't waste your money on airline board fees. There's no surf in Punta Cana. Gotta go to Cabarete & Playa Grande (PG is only on certain swells) for surf.

    Surf in DR.

I surfed a left named Macao when I stayed in Punta in 07.Just me and some local guy.Head high and perfect. Not a popular spot for surf consistency but the surfgods were good to me for 3 of the 7 days.20 min ride by taxi from Ocean Blue Resort.Hopefully by now the roads have improved.Potholes the size of bomb craters.30 bucks RT come picks you up when you tell him.Keep the same driver if all possible if you decide taxi.

Playa Grande, if the swell direction is right. Long paddle out to the point. Worth it if it's on.

I'm going to punta Cana Saturday, not bringing a board but will probably pack churchills in hopes I can get a bodyboard if there are waves. My research says PC doesn't have much and you have to travel to the north coast for anything. Going to play it by ear as this is a trip with the girlfriend primarily. I'll post my findings next week

im really going on a cruise and samana, domincan republic is the last stop but im bringing my board and will be surfing the few islands it stops at. The boat arrives to DR at 8 am and leaves 4 pm so i will have a perfect amount of time for a surf session if i find a beach with good waist - head high clean offshore surf. I will probably ditch my parents and take a taxi to a nearby beach but I'm just looking up which is the best and closest beach i will check out playa grande and see if any swell comes is the week i will be there.

How far away is it from the port of samana and how much would a taxi cost?

i just bought a lifeproof iphone 5 waterproof case that goes 6.5 ft underwater bc if im going to be alone( im 16) im going to need to call my parents and see where they are and if i should be back on the boat soon.would i be able to surf with it in my pocket its not that thick of a case its thin and much smaller than an otterbox case.

the case is here - http://www.lifeproof.com/shop/us_en/iphone-5/iphone-5-case
what do you recommend i do?

Got back yesterday, not a rideable wave seen. Wind was onshore 15-20 the entire week. I'm sure there were waves somewhere but not within the 6 miles of beach in punta Cana that I explored, just wind chop. worst part was the resort I stayed at wouldn't let us take out kayaks, catamarans, snorkel or anything because of the wind. Good luck.

i was in PC two years ago and surfed at a place called Macao Beach for two days. Chest to head high sets all day waters absolutely beautiful and you can rent boards from them for like 10 bucks a day, not too bad of a selection either. The place is owned by some chill local that has surfed all over the world including up and down the east coast (actually knew everything about my local spots on LI). Definitely would recommend going there if your looking for some swell

Supporting the Dominican Republic is synonymous with supporting the child sex slave trade.
