Anyone ever stay at the San O Bluffs? My buddy got a camp site this weekend between trails 5 & 6. Swells supposed to be pumping, but everything i read is the place is very fickle. Im gonna bring my 8'0, but do you think it would be worth it to pack any short boarts?

    Mahalos you fakkas

Isn't that where the great whites hang out?

My wife an I camped there years ago, definitely a longboard wave unless bigger. You are like 50 feet from the highway too if road noise keeps you up. Trestles is a short drive, long hike away

Yeah, that was a lot of the complaints on trip advisor, and that you're right on top of each other. Honestly, im probably gonna sleep in my car. Got it set up real nice. Could sleep sprawled out wiht 3 boarts in the car

Is the point too far to walk?

Def not gonna try to do trestles on a weekend of a pumping S swell lol.
I'd rather surf a crappier wave on my log with less people. We'll probably just end up surfing in front of the camp site.

I am taking the day off tomorrow, gonna try to shoot up to Dana point and score one of my go-to spots near salt creek Screen Shot 2018-08-16 at 12.45.50 PM.png

Drop the credit card and tell wifey to hold down the fort. You got a couch to crash on, amigo. Might be having some sessions with a pants-less member this week. NO HOMO

I bought a Cali state park parking pass 3 years in a row cause of Trails. One of my favorite places to surf, like a time machine to California 50 years ago, but it is an absolute shyte wave. Every dog has its day though and I've gotten it good, not really good, but good. Bring a shortboard too, but the LB is a very good call. Very sharky and tons of sting rays. I've gotten stung just standing, not even moving, up there, cock ray, and been chased out of the water twice, once cause the lifeguards saw the man in the grey suit and once cause my homie did. Turns out I paddle much faster than he does. Past trail 6, follow the old creepy dudes with skin like leather until you get past the sign that says, "Camp Pendelton Property of the US Government. Trespassers will be shot." and you can surf naked. Excellent way to get rid of pubes, free wax job. Might even see the occasional titi. Not really worth it though, cause the waves past trail 5 are pretty much crap. I would come and say high, but the 15$ for parking is blah.

Looks like I might try to come out between Nov 6th and the 12th. How’s the surf look around the time of year?

I’m gonna crash at my buddies pad in the city but I’m game to couch surf a night or two. We def gotta link up againe and shredz.

Sounds like New Jersey teachers convention week. I've gone out that week three times. Of the 21 days I've been out there that week of the year there was only 1 day that was completely flat and perhaps 2 others that were tiny and a few days where it was only good for a few hours in the morning before going onshore. The best year was 2016 and for that 7 day stay it was only less than head high 1 day and there were two days with four feet overhead to double overhead sets.

A lot of this sized surf on those trips.

By the way, the crowds around San Clemente that time of the year are very very light, especially on the week days. You can get Trestles and other spots in the area with very light crowds.

Alright, only stayed one night, but it was awesome. The highway traffic and train was no problem at all.

Got there Friday around 3. Our spot was between trail 5 and 6 (#148) Pounded a few beers then paddled out into 4-6’ swell.

Used the mini log, which was def the right call. As we were walking down the trail (not horribly long, about 15 min). We surfed until dark, got a few waves each and walked back up. Saw this before we went out:

Grilled out and drank some beers around a fire and planned our next morning.

Woke up at 530 to go wait in line for the state park parking lot at the point. We waited for 30 minutes, but ended up getting a spot facing the ocean. Surfed 3-5’ with about 100 other people, but plenty waves for everyone.

Came in, cooked some eggs and drank some coffee on the beach. Met some really cool groups of people just hanging out for the day. Paddled back out for another session then headed back to San Diego (only 2.5 hours to go 45 miles... I-5 south on a weekend at 3pm..)

    Take aways:
Buy a California state beach pass
    Do this more often
Never bring anything other than a log

I've camped there myself. Its not too far to walk up to Lowers, and the advantage of walking is you walk past Church, which can be a really fun wave - a soft rippable right semi-pointbreak, and way easier to get a wave than Lowers or Uppers.

I never really found a wave down at the bottom of the cliffs that was doing much, when there are so many higher quality waves nearby.
