It was flat as **** yesterday. Did a beach day with the wife, daughter and a couple friends. Got way too much sun. Brought the skimboard with me yesterday and messed around with it for like 2 30 minute sessions. Woke up today feeling like I can't move. I was trying to do shoveits and stuff going off the little miniwave ramps at low tide and obviously took a few back flops into the sand. My feet really hurt too. I forgot how unforgiving skim board is. Super fun when you get a good one, but dang man... I am all beat up. It was quite a work out and I think I need a chiropractor now.
Ohh and I need a much more legit skimboard. The thing was bending all kinda ways when I was turning and stuff. Forgot how much of a beater the thing was.
Hey man, go check out Exileskimboards.com for the most high performance skimboards out there. They also have some killer ones that can meet just about any budget. I only trust Exile.
Yeah and I've almost broke an ankle on those shuv its. Once you get good... You're good. And yeah exile is good, Victoria is good, Morgan just rides for them so that's cool, zap is good (but bland overall) and all are expensive. So yeah.
The last time I skimmed I re-broke 3 ribs..... doing shoveits. But man was I having a great time up to that point!
ive had the same question im thinking of getting into skimming and wanted a good board as well. how much does a good one cost?
Shortbus skimboards. They are made locally here in Buxton NC. They're as good as it gets and cheaper than the competition. Sold at Natural Art and OBBC up the beach.
i have a victoria board that can suit anyone up to like 200lbs id sell for 100$. nose is pretty messed up but for anyone not serious about skimming, its perfect any new board that is 'good' will be over 400$ and then traction pads.
Skimmed again yesterday after a surf. There were actually some waves this time, so I was making my entry into the water further out, throwing it into about 6 inches of water timing to waves and then hitting them ramp style. I can barely move today. Injured myself way worse this time. Only remember hitting the deck really hard one time, but man, I seriously can't move. At least I didn't get sunburned this time.
Wow that sounds painful haha. Done that a few times myself though. If you're looking for a board, I found a pretty nice guide that I used to get mine - https://www.outdoorboardsports.com/How-To-Choose-the-Right-Size-Skimboard-s/39.htm - Hope it helps!
I always seem to get tripped up/tangled in my leash when I'm skimming. Maybe it's too long or too short, not sure.
