its been down for a while for my beaches. I checked a couple other locations and it didn’t seems to work either.
I preface this by saying I’m an uninformed idiot by choice - so what’s surfchex? Is it surf cams on the site? We actually have that up here and the cams are great to double check an often wonky forecast - the the guy decided he was going to start charging for it and does stills only now every 6hrs. The site used to get 4-5000 hits a day, and now I’m betting it’s down a bit.
Yeah i don't know what that is. But speaking of cams, surfline don't have cams no more unless you have a membership? Or am i missing somthing? I don't use cams anyway. Im old fashion and just drive down. There's only one way to know, and that's to go.
I still have access to their cams on the iPhone app. I don’t check their regular website much these days.
Some of the Surfline cams - the more popular ones, I presume - have become "Premium Only" cams, and you must pay/subscribe to use them. In VB, this recently happened to the 1st Street Jetty and the 1st Street Jetty to Pier cams.
surfchex cams have gone down from time to time for like 3-4 days. but yea, been almost two weeks. the good news is that the beaches close by (?) like Carolina Beach are working. so ya know the site's not going down completely
Gotcha. I check the long beach cam sometimes. It's a bit further from my local but gives me a rough idea if im planning a after work sesh. Still go and check it in person regardless but noticed i had to pay for it recently. No need to pay as i don't really use it but was curious as to why the change.
My local SurfChex is working perfectly. However, with the cooler weather all the scantily clad is missing from the beach. This is a problem.
i like checking it with a hot cocoa or coffee in hand. with the cam going and reading the morning surf report. makes ya feel good n somewhat important
Yeah, I saw this the other day and almost started a thread about it. Not only did they go premium with the more popular cams, but now they also want you to pay for buoy data...call it "proprietary buoy data" that is some horse squeeze. I also remember reading on the surfer bb that sean collins tried to get noaa to limit the public's access to buoy data back in the early days of the interwebs too. Bunch of greedy a$$ bastards. I don't mind paying so I can have access to their live streaming network of cams around the world, but lying about access to publicly available data is beyond douchey imo
Ok we’re seeing the same things. I have a feeling ol Barry would not like this thread. Something like, “back in our day we loaded the mule and rode for hours just to check the surf.”
Oh Clemson surfer the real Barry was the second poster in this here tread or thread Are you and DSUP in the same boat exchanging personal emails with a fictional character from a surf predictin' website DSUP swears on his wife Barry is real you know he has his email address
Their Manasquan cam was/has been down for like, ever. I can get on my bicycle and ride down there to check it out in person in the time it takes to load. Or just hit the surfers view or Surfline, but it’s out on the surfers view a lot, too.
