^^^ ++++1 Maybe this jeezus character has an ego problem. "I'm a gonna get this guy addicted and then appear in his visions to help unaddict him. Then he'll think I'm his savior! Weeee!! Look at me!" Kind of like firemen turned arsonists so they have a fire to fight.
Like I mentioned above, whether you have an addiction/substance abuse problem or not, it doesn’t make you any less or any more of a person because of it. There are many greats in the history books who achieved amazing things and changed the world while having known addictions. In my opinion the reason it’s looked frowned upon and brushed under the rug so to speak is because no one finds the idea of heavy using or relying on a substance general appealing. If society could break that stigma of looking down on “junkies,” “dopers,” or whatever you want to call them, and start focusing on how to help rather than belittle and judge, the world would take a small step in a better direction. (Being realistic though, I’m aware that’s not going to happen. There billions of other issues going on in the world now too which aren’t being approached with the right mindset and most problems that are tried to be “solved,” just introduce a whole new array of problems when a solution is being put into place.) It’s why I agree when they call addiction a disease. It is medically defined as a disease, but not widely accepted, again because of the associated stigmas. It may not be a viral or bacterial disease in a traditional sense, but still a mental disease which develops into a physical dependence and emotional/spiritual void. I’m being broad in this comparison but bear with me here, cancer is most certainly looked at as a disease. You do not see anyone with cancer getting pulled over and arrested being thrown in jail because of their disease (albeit the disease of cancer won’t cause you to do all the illegal sh!t you’d possibly do in active addiction), they are treated to try and help them get better. The chance for cancer coming back is still there too, that’s why people are referred to as recovering cancer survivors. Addiction is looked at completely differently in our country. As mentioned early in this thread, all these drugs we’ve been speaking of are illegal, thus if you’re caught with them you get put in jail. The illegal things addicts do to get one more are things “normal people” would never think in their right minds is ok to do. But when you’re an addict and need that next fix, you become willing to break whatever “I’ll never do that” you said before and can become capable of horrible acts. But if you’re caught by the cops for being in possession of a substance or breaking the law you are thrown in jail, almost never being treated as someone with a medical condition and just looked down upon. It makes it so much more difficult for those who need help to actually go out and seek it. That’s why they say it’s a program for those who want it, and trust me it’s a worldwide fellowship in almost every country. Some of you guys mentioned it earlier in this thread about some countries in Europe have different types of facilities and programs set up for those whom are addicted. The laws are very different over there and treat addicts like people more so rather than the scum of the planet. US lawmakers/legislators could stand to learn a lot from those countries’ approach to handling addicts trying to help them rather then throw them into overcrowded jails (where they can still find any drug and most likely come out worse than when they went in). Back to AI and the other pros now. AI has always been one of my favorite surfers and always will be. When I learned of his apparent addiction I gained a new found respect for the man for being to accomplish the things he did while facing the most difficult type of adversity known, the inner battle and conflicts he had with himself. He triumphed winning multiple world titles but still had to fight against his own demons before he could take on the likes of anyone else. Like so many others that have lost their lives do to their addictions and overdoses, I feel for their pain because I’ve been there. It’s why I pray for the still sick and suffering out there that get the help they need. People are dying every day because of it, as I’m sure many of you here in NJ likely know someone who’s died from a heroin OD alone. The fact that I’m alive right now and able to have the luxury of typing this thread on the internet right now is a miracle itself, because honestly I shouldn’t be alive right now. I could have died ten times over from the crap I did. I don’t take it for granted anymore, and I know I can do whatever I set my mind and heart to now. Perfect examples are the other pros listed such as Tom Curren, Tom Carrol, the guys from the Mavericks crew, etc. They all got clean and look at the things they’re accomplishing now that they don’t have to live the way they used to fighting to get one more fix. On that note, I’ll end this novel of another post, but with a little disclaimer. Everyone is their own person and as I said multiple times above, gotta do what works for you. To the guy who does industrial work and gets the job done and all his responsibilities done then lights up a little grass to unwind at the end of the week to relax, more power to you brother. You’re living a successful life and don’t have to depend on chemicals to live day to day. I think this was a great thread topic, it definitely shows the diversity between the types of surfers and how we all associate with drugs. For some it’s as simple as having a surf session and a bit of weed after then going to work the next day. For others like myself I plunged to my rock bottom and choose to climb back out of the hole and live my life to the best of my abilities. To each their own. Stay stoked guys and gals.
Thanks for sharing your story ZombieSurfer. My last comment was directed towards our favorite bible pushing zealot, not you.
Haha yeah I figured. That's another cool thing I've learned is that attraction is much better than promotion. You and everyone else on this planet are going to think and do what you what because you're entitled to your own opinions and no one can take that from you, regardless of what anyone else thinks. So I don't even bother cramming my views down other peoples throats, not even worth the energy lol. Especially religious/lack of religious views, that's opening a whole new can of worms I wouldn't even dare get into haha.
Most can't do it alone and I understand why. I was the worst/hardest sh!t I've ever gone through. I really didn't do it alone. My girl gave me an ultimatum and I didn't want to lose her. Plus I was spending every dollar I had on pills. It was incredible. My life changed for the better immediately after I quit. At work and at home.
Yeah, I agree. I have never been there, but had a supposed friend fighting it and he ended up completely focking me over because of addiction. He was actually lying and stealing my sh1t to sell for meth and heroine. Wayne coming in here and saying all you need is jesus seems a bit disingenuous. Many people are just wired a certain way, neurologically, to become easily addicted. These people really do need help from doctors, programs, and medicine. I went through my own phases of sampling stuff. I had some good and bad times, but luckily came out ahead in the end. Now, I just stick to drinking on the weekends and an occasional edible (cookies or brownies are my preferred medium).
Why does every damn thread turn into a I hate Jesus thread. Man this is about drugs not Jesus. Holy jeebuss.
Pretty much. I don't hate Jesus, I just dislike many of his followers. What we know about the guy, from written history, tells a story of a decent human being. There was no reason to even post about it in here.
hey Wayne, i'm not going to bash on you, but I want your honest opinion. do you know anything about John Allegro and his deciphering of the dead sea scrolls. he is noted as being one of the most authoritative people when it comes to deciphering ancient texts, and was appointed the task of deciphering the dead sea scrolls. he was the only humanist (and a super straight dude that never did drugs) along with several others from the Vatican appointed to the task. well...... his conclusion of the scrolls was that early Christians were actually a sex and psychedelic mushroom cult and Jesus was actually a shroom. amanita muscaria most likely. you know the one with the white stem and red top with white spots on it. hmmm Santa Claus? also might explain Moses out alone in the desert talking to a burning bush. taking that for face value it sounds like he was tripping brah. also if you knew your history on the bible it was originally over two hundred books and the Vatican cut it down to bout 50 (if i'm correct). Including a book that was taken out during the 12th or 13th century regarding reincarnation, as to further control people through fear that they only have one shot on this earth to get it right or it will be eternal damnation.
I've seen some of the John Allegro stuff Archy...did a lot of research/writing on shrooms and the subculture that emerged. Also read stuff suggesting that DMT production in the human brain was waaaay higher before we were exposed to so much artificial light for so long, and that that might explain burning bush/Gabriel/etc... As far as the Bible, I think it's a great book, but I also think that those who revere it so highly should look into the history of how it was written, especially how what would be included was determined 325 years after the fact(Council of Nicea), etc...
Fuggedabout it archy. Wayne's already said in another thread he doesn't even read these responses. He just lurks until he sees an opening, throws out his evangelizing troll bait and disappears.
I have to say, if you want to talk to god, take some mescaline. 14-16 hours of strong mind altering visions. If someone is willing to believe in all the stories in the bible, is it too much of a stretch to think that hallucinogens open your eyes up to another dimension or reality? Of course, I am speaking philosophically and not scientifically.
Honest opinion........Just say Jesus. Did I answer your question without offending everyone. BTW surf never materialized in fla today, best we got at Cocoa Beach was waist high and clean right before dark. All day was drifty. Look at that answered 2 threads with 1 reply.
wayne666 hijacking yet another thread; almost as bad as bluto from vb. Both are like a skin infection that the longer the itch the worse it gets & they just don't go away.
