Can someone tell me how we just went an entire console generation(a decade) without a single surfing game?
Surfing doesn't lend itself particularly well to video games. How fun would it be to mash a button to paddle, mash a different button to pop up, and press another button to do tricks? It's too simple. Either you get a game like Kelly Slater pro surfing that was not realistic AT ALL, or a "realistic" surfing game which would bore most consumers half to death. It's a niche market, just like gaming. Developers would be taking a huge risk creating a game for a niche market within a niche market, when the two niche markets seem to be diametrically opposed (surfers are athletes, gamers are lazy).
Kelly Slater's Pro Surfing. You "dialed" cheats off Kelly's Nokia phone. Some dude would "pick up" and say "Duuuuuuude, the waves are looking tasty! You just unlocked ________! Better hit the waves pronto, brah." *Maybe Kelly Slater's Pro Surfing ruined surfing...
You could say the same thing about snowboarding. I say go the realistic route and make thousands of real world locations and mimic them exactly! Have contests and a character that you could develop a career with. Have different modes....bodyboarding....skimboarding. Also have different surfer modes. Soul surfer. Winter surfing in Jersey(on 23 footers of course) with snow. How cool would that be? Lot's of innovative ideas out there. It would be cool in ps4 level graphics. What they can do graphically with water is leaps and bounds above the past and makes it seem more real and interesting.
Please please please tell me there will be a Laird Hamiltons Pro SUP video game. PLEASE GOD! Video games were great when you were 12. Then you start liking girls and your console gets dusty and ends up in the worlds largest yard sale - Ebay. And thats the way it should be.
Truth. That's about the last time I was able to find time to play video games. And even that they've got so much cooler and more involved in the time since (no disrespect to awesome 8-bit NES), I've not succeeded on any thoughts of trying out new things like Wii or 3D games or PS4 (is that really out?). Way, way, way too many things I don't even have the chance to do in a day's time that come before video games. Nothing wrong with them, I just don't/won't get around to them.
Everything I love about surfing (being outdoors, being in the water, connecting with nature, pushing myself physically, searching for surf) is the exact opposite of playing video games. With that being said they could probably do some really amazing things with locations graphics wise on the next gen consoles but I don't know how they go about holding a gamers interest long enough to make it worth $60.
Statistics prove otherwise. Gaming is fun in moderation and most games are geared towards adults anyway. I mean who lets a 12 year old play grand theft auto.
Fill in the blank Maybe I'm crazy, but playing a video game geared towards adults whose theme is car theft and battery just sounds _______________________
Whoa, dude. Before you knock the graphics, take a good look at the cover: Considering Kelly had hair when this game came out, I would say the graphics are pretty legit. Plus, the picture I originally posted was from a rainy day at Jaws. The game had over 20 beaches to choose from and you really didn't know what the conditions were until the Quiksilver Boat cruised into town. It could be raining, windy, snowing (Antarctica) or raining hot lava (HI). Not too bad for a game from 2003. *Manisses - Dude, I think you're on to something with Laird Hamilton's Pro SUP. What if every game came with a sample bottle of "Ou de Laird" cologne. That would be sOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO kewl! #saltlife
I used to mess around on some Transworld Surf game on Xbox when I was younger. You could throw like quadruple rotators like it was nothing. And when you beat the game, you unlock NJSM and a 19 foot displacement hull NZSM board
