Who are the ten best surfers right now? My list, and I have not picked any particular order yet: Kelly Slater Gabriel Medina Mick Fanning Joel Tudor Nathan Fletcher Twiggy Baker Mike Stewart JJF JOB NJ Shred Sorry if I left anyone out. Who's da best right now?
lol that's a far stretched list lol.not counting contest wins heres my lineup Kelly slater(always number 1) jjf jack robinson noa deane jay davies Makua and koa rothman the smith bros(both alex and whoever, and also the 2 smith bros from mavericks but that's outdated) that French dude whatever his name is cant think of it and il throw job in there.. only reason I don't agree with Nathan fletcher and twigs,is because they been the top dogs in the big wave scene for over a decade already, and still get no recognition.twiggy is a cool motherfuker, and nathans a fellow pothead so they are heros to me
clay marzo kelly tom curren john john alex knost gerry lopez idk clay marzo and tom curren are the only two surfers who have truly blown me away/inspired me. i can appreciate what good surfing is and who rips, but it's been a while since i was really amazed with HOW someone surfs. sure i've been blown away by one or two airs/hacks/barrels by someone, but never HOW they do it on MOST waves. not trying to sound like a self-righteous douche canoe or anything but even though every wave is different people just seem to do all the same sh!t all the same way. inb4 ur just a kid u dont know anything
I left out Laird, Ian Wash, Dane Reynolds. I'll scratch Tudor for any of those. Stewart stays, he getsmore heavy barrels than anyone. Lopez and Curren , top 10 all time, but not right now. Nathan Fletcher definitely the black knight - one of my surf heroes, his dad Herbie too!
You're right (as usual). He needs to be in the top ten solely on the hotness of his wife, kinda like the Tom Brady of surfing.
in no particular order: Dane Kelly Mark Healey Bruce Alex Knost Yadin JJF Those guys inspire me to surf better. I watch a lot of old surf videos too, like from before '75. Those are the guys I really try to emulate style wise. For example, Nat Young in "The Crystal Voyager". Great surfing, cool film.
Mark Healey is the total deal - waterman extrodinaire. Yadin just showed his stuff at Sunset and he rules. So does the Rothman clan. It's really hard to name a top ten. In the spirit of the College Playoffs, name the top four, and brackets for semis. Kelly v. Mick JJF v Laird At big Cloudbreak? Or Sunset? Finals at big Pipe? Waimea? Raglan? Or Cocoa Pier (Wayne you can't be a judge, this is not a grom contest).
Pete Devries Timmy Reyes Kelly Dane Curren Jason Collins Raph Bruwiler John John Owen wright Matt Meola Wardo
JJF- charges barrels and has that stylee layback cutty Dane-He rips....actually fun to watch surf Mason- from rocky ledges to second reef pipe....he has range Slater- still does not need Viagra to hang with the boyz Mikala Jones- ruling Indo and other far out places and just charging/tr4aveling Parko and Fanning- same category...flawless styles JOB- his pipe antics make it fun...dude can ride the barrel Toledo- I think he could win world title one day Kerr- Not the best surfer but I think he is a top 10 surfer and I like his attitude
Both inspiring... both from opposite ends of the spectrum. Curren is so fluid and powerful, with that "one with the wave" type of style. Marzo is the Bode Miller of surfing.
first off about mark healy, hes really an inspiration.any of u remember that mtv show "true life" I want to be a big wave surfer.that was one of the episodes, saw that shyt before I even started surfing don't know what year it was,but healy fukin sucked at the time and look at him now!!also I remember the mtv cribs episode with jjf, think he was like 9 yrs old or something, again this was before I even surfed.kid was bred to be the best. ok on to ur finals.kelly vs mick, kelly would win in cloudbreak, sunset, pipe, waimea,or raglan lol.dont know about cocoa pier as they don't really have waves, yes I know that's where hes from btw. jjf vs laird,id be rooting for Florence but laird would probably beat him on a sup while hes shortboarding lol.yea laird sold out,but late 90s he was the man.one scene that stuck out for me with him was an airdrop at jaws, like this dude literally airdropped a good 20 ft from the lip,in boardshorts,in 60-70ft jaws,no life vest or fancy wetsuit balloons.performance wise, laird did that in the early 90s,but as far as a waterman hes the real deal
I'd like to see him, Alex Knost & Ford Archibold take a trip and drive off a fvckin cliff together! jk - That's really mean...
