Does anybody have any experience with waterproof drones? There's a new drone on the market called the Splash Drone. It's a waterproof quad with a waterproof camera gimbal and a live video feed directly from the GoPro. It's can also be flown from a phone or tablet and has autonomous features like follow me mode so the operator can fish/ boat / surf whatever and the drone does the flying. Would you go with this over a traditional drone like the DJI Phantom?

How waterproof is it? Can it double as a submarine or do you have 3 seconds to get it out?

    Also, is this your company/drone?

P.p.s: is this your idea of a herro thread?

Very suspicious 1st thread, Mr. Ryan... Methinks you might have an interest in this here venture.

Good luck with your Splash drone (my one recommendation... change the name)

A quick internet search reveals that Mr. Ryan does appear to be the Marketing Genius behind the Splash drone.

Good luck friend, I hope that you guys hit it big!

One question though, why not just post with 100% transparency? You know, something like: "Hey guys, I've just discovered this forum and am involved with a project that you might really dig. I'm the Marketing Wizard for the waterproof Splash Drone. What do you guys think?"

Hey, yeah not trying to hide it. Sorry for not being crystal clear about it. I just typed it in real fast with no thought of proper etiquette. Wasn't trying to be deceptive, I can see how it could be perceived that way though. So yeah, Just curious what the surfing community thinks and if you guys use waterproof drones at all. And thanks man.

PS I'm far from a marketing genius. Obviously.

    Its actually a great idea

No worries about "proper forum protocol", whatever that is! I was just lightly busting your chops before the big dogs (aka, the little yappy trolls) started laying into you.

But, I think that the idea is really solid. I've been using DJIs and other larger custom built UAVs for a few years now for work and occasionally for "play" and always wished that they were more weather/water resistant (the Phantom, particularly). They key for me would be that the device, (1) is waterproof, meaning that it will completely survive full submersion for several minutes, and (2) that it floats!

There may be a couple of other handy features, but those are critical. Seriously, I hope you guys do really well. Maybe at version 2.0, consider a name like... Osprey. Just a thought!

Because you're so much more erudite than the rest of us SI Forum morons.

Or, possibly, merely light in your loafers, my lil condescending cupcake.

Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it. I like the name suggestion too! Thanks for letting me know what you would want out of the drone. It definitely floats and can be submerged. We have a lot of videos of it landing and taking off in water. I think I'll make some it being submerged and then taking off. Great feedback! Thanks again.

Can it hold up to the dreaded 3 man coconut slingshot?

Probably not, but there's a drone that can. It's called the Game of Drones and they shot it with a shotgun. Check out the video below.

No, the idea behind it was that you could film yourself while you surf, without you having to worry about flying the drone.

My father has been into these things for years. For the last 20 years every time I call him he just drones on and on.
