While I was away from home for 2 years, my sister moved into my room. From July of last year, until May of this year, she stored 2 of my wetsuits, a pair of 7 mil boots, and some 5 mil gloves in a Virginia attic. I know it says store in a cool, dry place. Anyway, the 4/3 I had worn maybe 6 winters and never had a problem with the cold in 40 degree water. Yesterday, the water was 55 and I was cold. I felt it at a seam; not like a leak but like it entered slowly. Is this how old the suit was or did the attic cook my wetsuits? The other wetsuit is a 6/5 that I mainly used for diving or water under 40 degrees and cold air temps. In total, I have worn it 10 times over 4 years or so. The boots and gloves were used only one winter. Are these all ruined too? It's 700 dollars worth of stuff and for the time being I don't have the funds to replace any of it. Thanks
First, what's a wetsuit? If you're talking about wetsuites: 1) there's a ton of recent treads on them 2) there's a very good tread on repairing suites and what to use 3) any suite with holes or tears is technically repairable, as is a suite with seam issues 4) read those treads, get the repair items, repair your suites if you don't have money to blow 5) tattered and porous suites are nuttin to eff with as this water's getting much colder, not good for your health or happiness
Sounds like the wetsuite is old to begin with... Wetsuites don't last too long- specially storing them in an attic. If it gets super hot in the summer, it basically melts them. You might be shot... But they are old anyways , just buy a new suite. Lots of suites for cheap on the internet
I love how, without fail, the Swellers enforce this verbatim to all newcomers. Hello tread is such a household term now and for good reason.
Ok. Hello all. I am new to this forum but not swellinfo. I've never had this happen before with the wetsuits so I figured I'd give it a try. Do you want to know how much I bench now or something? "e" at the end of wetsuit? Also, are the waves good in Belmar?
Dudeski you know about Belmar- but not about suite? Belmar is always firing... Welcome to swellinfo.com If the Tard wasn't banned- he would ask for pics
Both suits are on the older side in my opinion and will leak... especially the 4/3. boots/gloves should be fine...listen to Emass recommendations on searching threads to repair your suit...
Nah. I know nothing about wetsuites. I admit I read these threads sometimes; they can be pretty funny. I missed that one though. But everyone knows it fires in Belmar. Thanks though for those who took my post seriously (I know how these threads work). It sounds like I'm buying a new suite. And thanks to those for the swellinfo.com sarcasm too.
neoprene (rubber) has a relatively short life...regardless of how much or little it's been used. There are factors than can hasten it's demise (sun, heat, salt, etc), but there's a reason wetsuites only get a one year warranty. You can fix some of the seams with aquaseal (major hassle), but, at 6 yo, I'd recommend buying a new suite. Maybe this time go more on the cheap, so you can afford a new one more often.
