there is a sweet aquarium at ft fisher state run pretty cheap great for the family. also check out the serpentarium if you are into snakes it's pretty amazing. http://www.capefearserpentarium.com/
having lived in wb for the past 30+ years i can see how ppl feel that way when they visit. i won't even argue against that. just remember that the overwhelming majority of wb residents are from raliegh, cary, charlotte, etc. very few ppl actually live here year round.
for the general public: 1. wb has some decent sand bars right now. almost anywhere will work but cb and topsail will be slightly better depending on the swell. 2. the food sucks on the beach. srsly, it flat out sucks. go off the island to: sweet and savory chops deli and grill for a nicer meal go to terrazzo or boca bay indochine is good too if you must eat on wb, go to tower 7. again (surprise) the food flat out sucks but at least they play surf videos. 3. try to rent bikes cause parking can be a m'fer 4. there is a lot, i mean A LOT of good looking women on the loop, beach, everywhere, etc. act like you are not impressed but eye fvck the hell out of them when no one is looking ( idk about that last part, stop me if i'm going too far) 5. there is no regulation in the line up. that went away about 20 years ago. you will find boogs, tourists, fisherman, rippers, sups, kayaks, kite boarders, pissed off old man long boarders, etc. deal with it
Not a big fan of Wrightsville. The only reason I ever go there is to buy a surfboard, eat Mexican and look at 16 year old rich girls parade around in as little clothing as possible. If you're between 14 and 21 you'll have a great time or if you hate puppies and love following a huge list of dont's or cant's the place is for you. I suggest hitting downtown Wilmington at least once and it looks like you're lucking into some waves on Saturday.
Go to Zaxby's and geta kickin chickin sandwich for me!! I surfed Wrightsville one time, North of the pier. Crowd was spread out, lots of SUPs, vibe was cool in the water. Waves were 3 to 5 and pitchin really fast. Still a fun day
Stay away from CB kook!!! Nah, just kidding.... lots of peaks, water still too cold for a major touron invasion. If you do get to CB check out the fat pelican. It's a bar, not an overweight bird. I'll be the guy being yelled at by the bartenders... The tard is right about no regulation, but overall it's a good vibe. enjoy!
I enjoy WB on a regular basis, its good fun. But the aquarium is very cool for a family outing. I go on dates there a few times a year.
^^^this. Chops = great sandwiches. Indochine = good thai food and you can sit in your own bungalo in the courtyard. Also for white table cloth Roy's Riverboat Landing downtown. If just the two of you get a two top balcony. Lots of good places to eat\drink downtown. +1 for the aquarium and at CB the Fat Pelly. Because beer is love. Be on your best behavior at WB. Cops love that revenue stream and they are very loose on what defines "resisting arrest". And yes, there's tons of eye candy at WB. Luckily my wife isn't the jealous type.
