The threat of spring!! Air temp has reached 63 degrees Fahrenheit. Wave height is thigh to waist plus on the faces and Corolla currently has an off-shore wind. Despite the side-shore wind out of the south, you could catch quick sections. Wave height is thigh to waist with an incoming tide. Surface conditions are semi choppy. Too much of a good thing (in surfing) sometimes is not a good thing: off-shore wind. Wind speed is 17 to 20 mph out of the West to Northwest. Wave height is less then knee cap and high tide at 3:36 PM. Water temp has moved up to 43 degrees Fahrenheit. I took these pictures in Swan Beach. Small surf but great sandbars. Despite the overcast sky, it is actually balmy, air temps in the low 60’s, we have a warm south wind and thigh to waist high waves. Corolla has an incoming tide at this posting. Water temps are in the low 40’s. But H2O is can fluctuate depending on the wind. Surface conditions are bumpy but there are makable sections. NOTE: ALL OF OUR 2014 SURFBOARDS ARE DISCOUNTED! We have a slight improvement in conditions. The wind is coming straight out of the east. This allows the sections to have a little more definition. Wave height is waist plus. Corolla has a change in weather systems around 4:00 PM yesterday. The wind is blowing out of the ENE @ 15 mph. This has chopped up surface conditions but has not helped to increase wave size. We actually have surf today. Conditions are longboard-able. Wave height is chin to knee cap. Corolla is showing of well developed sandbars that seem to break even during high tide. Water temp dropped down 3 degrees due to the off-shore wind. NOTE: WE WILL OPEN TOMORROW! GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Another day of very flat surf. I took these pictures right at high tide. Although wave height is only ankle slapper, I can see that North Corolla has well developed sand bars. I just took these pictures in north Corolla. As you can see we, currently have Lake Atlantic conditions but also mild weather. Air temp will hit 61°F. The pictures tell the story: Corolla has flat ankle slapper surf but clean surface conditions. The wind is out of the WNW, steady at 15 mph. Despite the flat ocean, it is a warm day on the beach. We are 2 days past a full moon, so the pull on the tide will be less each day. Surf conditions on the northern beaches are small thigh high waves. Corolla has an off-shore wind blowing at 11 mph. Surface conditions are clean and we currently have an outgoing tide. The sun is out & 41 degrees Fahrenheit feels like 50. NOTE: REMEMBER, NAT HALL’s MEMORIAL SERVICE IS TODAY.

I spent most of the AM just getting ice/sleet off of our deck. What the pictures don’t show is how cold it is: currently we are a 28 degrees Fahrenheit w/a wind chill in the mid-single digits. Yesterday’s surf is a distant memory! March is still acting like a pissed off Lion. I just took these pictures at the horse fence. The Outer Banks is currently seeing surf that is chest high. The wind has turned and is currently out of the NNW. The paddle-out on some breaks might be as far out as 300 yards.
